Rules
As a roleplaying server, we expect our players to roleplay. Roleplaying can be defined simply as: To assume or act out a particular role. Our players take great pride and a lot of pleasure in creating interesting and believable characters, and we welcome new players who wish to contribute to the roleplaying atmosphere and add to the enjoyment of the people around them.
Make no mistake - there is a lot of adventure in Moonsea Adventures; many scripted quests and exciting challenges await our players, and our Dungeon Masters are dedicated to entertaining the players.
There are a few things that we expect from our players, however, the most important being that they show respect and friendliness to others. We want to create a friendly and inclusive community. Below are a few of our rules and guidelines.
Metagaming: The use of out-of-character knowledge in an in-character situation. A character played by a metagamer does not act in a way that reflects the character's in-game experiences and back-story. A few examples.. Adjusting a character's actions if the player has some foreknowledge of the long-term intentions of the gamemaster or adjusting a character's behavior towards other characters based on real-life relationships with other players. Refrain from metagaming.
Powerlevelling: Strategically playing with the sole intent of gaining experience points as quickly as possible. We're a roleplaying server, come roleplay with us. If you're here to powerlevel and grind through XP, then please visit an action server instead. Refrain from powerlevelling.
Twinking: Giving items and gold to lower level characters that could in no way earn these items on their own is a violation of the rules. There are certain roleplay situations in which this is permissible, but do believe that the DMs know the difference. Twinked items will be confiscated and destroyed.
Camping: Do not go to an area/group of areas where creatures spawn and lap that region repeatedly. Be considerate of other players on the server. Refrain from camping.
Griefing/Disruptive Roleplay: Griefing is deliberately setting out to disturb and annoy others, it can take many shapes and forms. From un-roleplayed PvP, to disrupting another's RP, to abuse of game mechanics. Respect others and do not grief. Further, do not use your character's alignment or mental status as an excuse to deliberately and intentionally disrupt the roleplay of others. Our DM team will know the difference between legitimate roleplay and griefing and will treat it accordingly. Griefers are subject to banning.
Muling: Transferring items between characters that you own. There is no acceptable 'roleplay' reason to transfer items between your characters. At a minimum your muled items will be confiscated and destroyed. Repeat offenders are subject to banning.
Exploiting: During the course of development there will be imbalances and errors in both the module and the very game itself. Using these errors and imbalances to further your character, or give yourself an advantage over other players or the game itself, is just plain low. If something looks like an exploit, report it to a DM. Exploiters are subject to banning.
Logging out to avoid death: Self explanitory. Death rules here aren't that hard, so take your death like a real adventurer. If you are caught logging to avoid death, your character will be DM-killed. Chronic offenders are subject to banning.
OOC talk: Please stay in character at all times in any public channel, including the talk channel and party chat. The DMs will allow some exceptions when it really is necessary to make an out-of-character comment. In practice, this usually means when you have to go away from your keyboard suddenly. In this case, please keep the comment very brief and use OOC to explain that you are talking out of character. For example, if you suddenly need to leave your keyboard while your character is with a party in a dungeon, it is okay to say:
"OOC: Someone is at the door, back in a moment". or "//Someone is at the door, back in a moment".
But that is about it. Unless there really is no alternative, you should not go out of character in public channels for any other reason. This rule is designed to ensure that the server remains an enjoyable place for roleplayers. Other players should never have to ask you to stay in character. Please note that you can chat with other players about all sorts of things on the message board, the IRC room, or designated OOC areas in the server. Some players may be comfortable with private messages ('tells') sometimes, but please be polite and considerate.
